U.S. Taxpayers Subsidize German Firm for Texas Wind Energy Facility

The Roscoe Wind Facility in Texas is the largest facility in the Southwest. It’s rated capacity is 782 MW. The facility is exempt from property taxes because of its location in Texas. This facility received an estimated $216 million in subsidies from the 1603 renewable grant program. The construction cost for the wind facility is estimated at $1.0 billion, ref. 1.

Roscoe Wind Facility is owned by E.ON Climate Renewables (EC&R), a subsidiary of E.ON, an international power and gas company headquartered in Dusseldorf, Germany. E.ON has over 125 billion euros in assets.

Why is our government spending our tax dollars to pay a German company for wind power, when millions of Americans are unable to find employment?
